ALFORD, Charles: Arrived Dec 1830 on ship The Resource
Hobart Town. Can anyone tell me why he went to Tas? He arrived
as far as l know a free man. I have him after 1839 but nothing
between 1830 and 1839 where did he work where did he came from
or what made him go to Tas? Many thanks for any help.

Tasmania on the Dunorlan 2 in Mar 1859. I am trying to
locate details of his siblings Mary Anne, Alice and Herbert.
Mary Anne died around 1890, Alice married in England and Herbert
was a stonemason from Oxfordshire. Their father was Abel and
mother Sarah DYER.

Vivienne Beatrice Jane born 1894. Thomas died
in 1951, Wellington, age 96 years New Zealand & Jane died in
1925 Gisborne, New Zealand, age 72 years.

BARKER, Richard (Esq): Born c1780, Dublin. Married
Frances Louisa CAWTHORN c1810, London(?). Emigrated to
Sydney per Willerby in 1816 with wife and 3 sons. 1,000
acre land grant from Governor MacQuarie for New Norfolk. Arrived
Hobart Oct 1816 per Spring. Had ten children altogether -
Richard jnr, George, Henry Kitchen, Arthur, Edwin, Charles,
Louisa, William, Emma & Francis. A Justice of the Peace and a
business partner of Anthony Fenn Kemp. Resided in Hobart until
taking up grant at New Norfolk in the 1820's. A pioneer settler
of Van Diemen's Land. Died 1857 from a drowning accident. Would
love to hear from any other descendants, or those descended from
the servants or convict labourers he hired.

1910, Launceston. Alexander was a shipwright built Tamar
Maid. They lived French Street, Launceston. Alexander
arrived Sydney on the Samuel Cunard in 1839. They had
12 children.

Tasmania. 1833+. I strongly suspect along with other researchers
that my BOMFORD’s are descended from Colonel Laurence

Records", 5th Edition, 1976, London, Burkes Peerage
Limited, page 152-5 and to Peter Bamford's "The Bomford Family
and Allied Families".

BOWDEN (alias
BUNNETT), Edward:
Convicted at Little Walsingham, Norfolk in 1826 for fowl
stealing and transported on the
Governor Ready
in 1827. He was baptised Edward BUNNETT but apparently
adopted his mother's maiden name after a prior conviction.
He married Diana AYRES in 1816 at Shropham, Norfolk.
Diana and 5 children emigrated in 1830 and they had 3 more
children at Bothwell, where they settled. The Bowden family
still lives in the district.

I am searching for
any information I can get on John Bradshaw and Annie James.
The only information I have is that they spent some time in
Tasmania where they had at least one son in 1860, James
Algernon Hay Bradshaw. James came to Victoria at the age of
ten where he went on to marry Phillis Louisa Smith in
Kyneton Victoria. John and Annie are my g-g-grandparents,
apparently they divorced and Annie returned to Ireland. I
would love to be able to find some information because at
the moment I have hit a brick wall. Waiting in anticipation.

Launceston 1833 on Countess of Dunmore. They lived in
George St, Westbury in 1848. William was a watchman at the Tamar
Bank. He sailed to Victoria on Sea Witch in 1852 with his
two sons William Thomas and Andrew. No record of William Snr and
son Andrew have been found since 1852 - am seeking any
information about their lives in Tasmania and Victoria.

BUMPSTEAD, Elizabeth:
Transported 7 years per Mellish in 1830 for stealing
drinking pots. She was transported with 5 of her 6 children Mary
Ann, Caroline, Elizabeth, George and Sarah. Other child William
was transported for life per Mary in 1830, all to Hobart.
George was later convicted of stealing brass brushes, died in
custody 1852 after a (visitation of god). Elizabeth Bumpstead
died in Hobart in 1853.

ship Palmyra after having been found guilty of

Isabella from Leith in Scotland for forgery. Sentenced to
life. Arrived in Tasmania in 1836. Wife Jane (nee
JOHNSTON) and sons William, Robert and John arrived
around 1846. Further children, Annie, Cecelia, Jane, James,
Henry and Clementine born between 1837 and 1847. William
was a convict on the Loan Gang in Campbell Town and then
moved to Hobart. After receiving his Pardon, the family
moved to Brunswick in Melbourne.

Married Elizabeth BUMPSTEAD in 1842, daughter of
female convict Elizabeth Bumpstead per Mellish 1830.
Daughters - Caroline 1844 and Elizabeth 1847. George Clements
was a successful confectioner also active in abstinence
society in Hobart to 1855. Mentioned many times in
newspapers of the day (not to be confused with similar named
- a butcher. Then moved to New Zealand. He died 10 July,
1887 in Auckland.

DUNCOMBE, John - Born 1772 in
Cripplegate, England. Indicted 26 Sep 1787 for stealing 210
yards of everlasting [cloth]. Found guilty and transported
for 7 years. Arrived in Sydney on the Albermarle,
which was part of the Third Fleet in 1791. Transferred to
Norfolk Island on the Atlantic and remained there as
a carpenter after his sentence expired. John married
Elizabeth HAMBLEY on 27 Jun 1808 in Hobart. John became
deranged and was sent to an asylum in Sydney in Sep 1819. He
was admitted to the Benevolent Society on 24 Sep 1827 and
listed in the 1828 Census aged 57 years. John Duncombe died,
aged 66, on 23 Nov 1835.
