WHITE, Henry:
Married Mary McCARTHY 10 Jul 1878 Catholic Church, Deloraine.
Witnesses Owen McCarthy (father) &
Ellen McCarthy (sister). Three children in Tasmania -
only Henry Gerald is registered. Richard and Cecilia on church records but not government registry. In late 1880’s,
moved to Richmond, Victoria where Phillip (1888), Elizabeth, Gertrude
Mabel & George were born. Henry died 19 Mar 1940, aged 87, Richmond. Using dates on marriage and death certificates, born
c1853; death
certificate states born in Tasmania. I
have searched all the Henry White’s born about that period on
the government registry. Only possibility is a Henry White
born 28 May 1850 to a William and Elizabeth nee Partridge in Morven, Evandale. William & Elizabeth married in 1848 in the
Church of Scotland. On government registry it states another son (no name given)
born Apr 1853 and a
daughter Elizabeth born 11 Dec 1851. I do not have any Williams
in the family. Was it possible for a Catholic girl and a
Presbyterian boy to marry in 1878? I am just not convinced that
William & Elizabeth are Henry’s parents. Look forward to any
comments.

YOUNG(E), William:
Believed to have been a farmer near Margate or North West
Bay. Details of William, his wife and children are unknown
except for two daughters, Constance (known as Annie) and
Ellenor Bly (known as Bly. Annie born c1864 (possibly
in Margate), married Edwin John Whitby 18 Oct 1883, Hobart and
settled in Melbourne where Edwin
kept the Star of the West Hotel (now the Great Western) in
King Street. Three surviving children - Irene, Gladys & Royston. Edwin died
1895 Melbourne and Annie moved to
Perth with Irene & Gladys, possibly to live with her sister,
Bly. Bly married William Robinson Ward 1894 Fremantle. William Ward died 1905. Annie remarried in
Perth 1901. Gladys lived in Perth and married Harry
Simes. Irene went to the USA and married there. I don't
know much about Royston except that he died in Melbourne in
1975. He may have a son named Wilfred Whitby.
